Taking The Initiative To Join Univative
Illawarra (UI)
If you’re still kicking yourself for missing
out on the HEWSO
(Higher Education Workplace Skills Olympiad)
that was held early this year, don’t worry because
the Univative Illawarra
(UI) is here. UI is
a workplace skills competition organised by the Careers
Service in conjunction with Illawarra organisations.
It is modelled on the highly successful HEWSO
and its main aim is to promote innovation in the region.
UI takes students from different disciplines
and forms teams that work on a problem/issue set out
by the host organisation. These teams will work together
for a 3 weeks and present their recommendation for the
solution to the host organisation. Each organisation
will judge and choose the best solution to their problem
and each winning team will then compete for the "Best
Presentation", "Best Business
Report" and "Most Creative
Idea". UI is held every
year during the mid-year recess and this year it is
taking place between 20th June and 15th July.
Now “why would I give up my mid-year
recess to take part in this?” you
may ask. Though it means less time to sit around doing
nothing, the benefits of participating are priceless.
Here are some of the benefits you may miss out on if
you do not participate:
- Increased employment prospects via the development
of employability skills
- Networking opportunities with employers
- Networking opportunities with students from other
disciplines
- New skills outside your academic discipline
This activity is open to any discipline, undergraduate,
postgraduate, domestic or international students because
we know that the more, the merrier. Every one is welcome
to step up and sign up, though if necessary preference
will be given to penultimate and final year students.
All students are welcome to be involved. To sign up,
email your resume and academic transcript to srejske@uow.edu.au
by the 20th of May 2005. So don't forget to step up
and sign up, it could be the missing piece of the puzzle
in you resume.
