Workscope
[Issue 16, October 2004]
Are you enthusiastic - committed - socially responsible?
Then consider joining - SIFE Students in Free Enterprise
SIFE’s mission is to provide
tertiary students with an opportunity to make a ‘difference
in their communities’ and to develop leadership,
teamwork and communication skills.
How it works:
SIFE challenges you to take what
you learn in the classroom and apply the knowledge to
real working situations - it’s your chance to
be an entrepreneur and create an innovative community
outreach project that will teach others a skill for
life.
Some typical projects are:
- teaching simplified tertiary education skills,
e.g., web page design, to primary school students
- tutoring and mentoring at-risk school students to
encourage them not to drop out
Timing
SIFE is an ongoing process with an
annual competition held during mid-year recess where
you’ll have a chance to showcase what you have
done in front of a national audience and be judged by
some of the most senior business and government leaders
in Australia.
This is a must for anyone looking for experience or
a challenge, so for more information
