| Question: What is GAC?
Answer: The Graduate Attributes Challenge!
Are you looking for a way to:
- find out more about employment prospects for your
degree?
- showcase your research, presentation and negotiation
skills?
- demonstrate teamwork skills?
- show initiative?
- increase your extra curricular activities?
The UOW Careers Service can provide
you with an opportunity to achieve these goals AND
do so while liaising with a potential employer. Getting
involved with GAC allows each student
to work out what skills and attributes employers in
their field are looking for and develop those skills
in the process.
GAC is an exciting new program run
by our Careers Service where a team of six students
from each Faculty or discipline compete with other teams
within the University to produce the best report and
poster presentation on employability skills in their
field. During their preparation over three
weeks from the 16th of August students
in each team interview three employers and undertake
research in the field which can then be compared to
the official UOW Graduate attributes and
other skills and experience gained by students in your
faculty. The teams taking part will get to enjoy
a presentation event on the 10th of September this
session where awards will be presented.
This is your chance to make great contacts, make friends
in your Faculty and develop your confidence in explaining
your work, answering questions and discussing human
resources with various employers. In the long term,
the results of your own research could even give you
that extra advantage in writing job applications and
attending interviews.
To take advantage of this opportunity and secure your
place in a Faculty team, contact Robyn Gleeson
on (02) 42213970 or email rgleeson@uow.edu.au
or call into the Careers Service, Lower Ground Floor,
UniCentre (opposite SRC).
