'The Edge' technical/ download/ user details

Software requirements

You need Adobe Reader to access the subject materials provided within this PDF. We recommend Acrobat Reader Version 6 or higher for Macintosh and PC. You can download the software for free from the UOW software site or from Adobe systems direct. Before installing please check that your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed at the end of this document. If you have an older version of Acrobat Reader installed on your computer it is recommended you replace this with the version provided as additional features are available.

To view the movies you need the QuickTime Player. Again, you can download the software for free from the UOW software site or from the Apple/QuickTime site direct. Before installing please check that your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed at the end of this document.

Usability Instructions

This resource was produced as a PDF because of its versatile nature. There are a few things to keep in mind though because there are so many browsers, computer settings and different platforms. By reading through these brief instructions you will be able to get more from your CD and inturn a better handle on applying for a job.

Navigation

The navigation on this CD has tools that are easy to use but may need to be highlighted so you don't miss out on these features or get confused.

The options for navigation include:

  1. The coloured navigation bar that appears on all pages towards the top of the page.
  2. The grey column on the left within each section of the PDF. You can use this navigation to jump through topics within each section. One point to highlight is that you need to look at the bottom right of the PDF page and if you see .... that indicates there is more information from this section on the next page so use the hook buttons mentioned in point 3 to view the next page.
  3. T he hooks that appear within the PDF page towards the bottom. This way you can go backwards or forwards.
  4. The PDF icon indicates that you can open a PDF version of the topic, the MS Word icon indicates that you can open a Microsoft Word template, and the QuickTime picture links to a QuickTime movie on the topic.

Resources

All resources can also be downloaded or accessed from here.

We recommend to download the TheEdge2008.zip file and then unzip the file by selecting the 'Extract All...' option, and once unzipped run the file 'TheEdge-zipped.pdf'. All links from the PDF to the movies etc will automatically work this way.

The materials are organised as follows:

  • Resources like video's, MS Word Templates, and PDF's are located in the 'Resource' folder.
  • TheEdge2008.zip contains a zipped version of 'The Edge' and the resources.
  • The main file is called: TheEdge.pdf

If you have problems downloading the PDF and/or resources, you can pick up pick up the CD Rom version or a hard copy version (the printed version does not have the additional functions listed above) from the Careers Service office.
