HEALTH SCIENCES CAREERS FAIR (Health & Behavioural Science)

Date: Wednesday, 29th July 2009 from 10:00am - 1:30pm

The aim of the fair is to increase student awareness of the opportunities and realities of working within the health industry, and also for employers to be more fully aware of the qualities, skills and experiences that UOW graduates may bring to their organisations.

SIFE (STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE)

Present another Financial Literacy Seminar to be held Wednesday 1 July in 20.5 commencing at 3pm.  Topics covered will be Savings, Interest, Credit/Debit Cards, and Budgeting.

Applications are open join a community project for SIFE.  Students in Free Enterprise is a student volunteer program.

Learn new skills – meet new friends – be part of the community – be a team leader – all valuable skills for future career planning and job search.

To be considered you must

  • be a current student
  • be able to attend monthly meetings
  • be able to spend a few hours on project work.

Students who participate in projects will be eligible to apply for the National Competition in July 2010 (travel & accommodation paid).

CISCO INTERSHIP PROFILE (AUGUST 2009 - JANUARY 2010)

Join Cisco and immediately contribute to how they innovate, sell, and support the solutions that are shaping the future.  Their 6-month internship will give you Networking Lab-time, a CCNA qualification, and hands-on experience solving clients’ networking problems.

If you’re: studying computer science, IT, electrical engineering or a closely-related subject; interested in networking technologies and their impact on how we live, work, play and learn, then they would like to hear from you.  This is a competitively paid internship programme, designed to train Cisco's future engineers.

IAESTE: AN INTERNATIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

The University of Wollongong is now a member of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE).

IAESTE can provide overseas work experience opportunities to University of Wollongong students studying degrees in engineering, science, and technology related disciplines. Paid professional traineeships are available in over 80 countries and range from 2-12 months.

THE BROLGA PROJECT: WORK EXPERIENCE IN RURAL AND REGIONAL AUSTRALIA

Launched on October 6 last year, ‘The Brolga Project’ links students needing work experience with under-staffed businesses, non-profit agencies and government departments in regional and rural Australia.

This program designed to bridge the city/country divide is gaining momentum, with a broad spectrum of early participants figuratively crossing the great divide.

NATIONAL ICT CAREERS WEEK - INDUSTRY PANEL EVENING

On 27th July 2009, the Faculty of Informatics is hosting a panel of industry representatives, academics and students discuss the threats and opportunities for the ICT industry created by the Global Financial Crisis.

There will also be exhibitors from the industry and UOW staff to answer all your questions about studying ICT and working in the ICT industry.

As an initiative of the 2009 ICT Careers week (http://www.ictcareersweek.info), the ACS Foundation is holding a competition for young people to post a short video (less than two minutes) around one or more of the six themes of the week this year, basically on the topic of "What does ICT mean to you?"

Each category winner will receive one of seven i-Pod Touches, based on the number of "views" their video gets.

Entries should be posted on the ACS Foundation You Tube channel - http://www.youtube.com/ACSFoundation.
