FINAL YEAR THIS YEAR?

Interested in lining up a great graduate job for the end of your studies? Then read on now, as you start your final year.

Most vacancies for graduate programs, which start in January 2009 and are generally with large organisations, will be advertised and promoted between March and May 2008. These programs are run by a range of employers, both corporate and government, who will be looking to raise profile with people like you across all universities in March/April. Closing dates are from mid March to early June (with about 15% closing by late March). Some disciplines have recruitment processes later in the year e.g. Nursing and Teaching, and then other employers recruit graduates on an ad hoc basis, so while there is a strong graduate recruitment push right now – there are other opportunities throughout the year.

'My JobBoard'

There are some interesting opportunities for students to gain first hand experiences offered by various workplaces e.g. Microsoft Australia offers a program to IT students – Microsoft Student Partners, which gives students the chance to build new skills and interact with Microsoft, and gives Microsoft the chance to foster the next generation of IT graduates and teach technologies to students they couldn’t otherwise reach. Find out more from here.  Besides this, we hear from many organisations offering industrial experience or internships – to check all that we are aware of – regularly visit My Job Board.
