all disciplines for roles across Australia. Check
them out from here.
Our Illawarra Graduate Careers Fair

opportunities across the Illawarra.

GET READY TO APPLY!
1. WORKSHOPS
Besides our guest employer presented workshops,
the careers counsellors of the university also present
numerous workshops (in our offices in smaller groups).
The workshops deal with resumes, application forms,
responding to government selection criteria, assessment
centres and interview skills. Check out the dates
and times here
and register online.
2. THE EDGE
Our latest version of our job seeking resource ‘The
Edge’ is now available in various formats
– via CD, hard copy print version or online
PDF. New in 2007 is a feature chapter for Education
students.

VIRTUAL CAREERS FAIR
Meet up with graduate employers online – at the
Virtual Careers Fair. This online Fair has been held
for the last 4 years and is growing in popularity with
employers and students. Visit GraduateCareers
for more details.

GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES BOOKS
In 2007 there are 3 publishers producing
books to be given out to final year students and show
which employers recruit specific disciplines. These
books tend to contain employer who recruit between 10
and 350 grads per year, so some discipline areas are
not listed (eg. Creative Arts). They will all be available
at the National Careers Fair on the 4th
April, or you can pop into our offices
from 2nd week of March to pick up your free
copy.

CAREERS SERVICE INTERNS
Our Careers Service Interns have started
work with us. What motivates our group of Careers Service
Interns to offer to give us their unpaid time and energy
over a year.
“To gain contacts”, says Matthew.
“To work with Australian and international
students (will help) improve my language and interpersonal
relations skills”, says Yvonne, a biotechnology
student from Colombia.
For others the internships are an opportunity to make
an impact on other people’s resumes as well as
their own. Rebecca, for example, is a mature age student
who wants to help the Careers Service to get across
its message to students about “ the need ..
to engage in active job seeking, whilst .. their final
year.”
This year you can expect our Interns to pop up in lots
of different places in our tasteful dark blue Polo-shirts.
They may visit you before a lecture starts to tell you
about a relevant careers event. They will be helping
run a ‘mobile’ careers service – reaching
students who don’t notice our office behind security.
They will be introducing our guest speakers at information
sessions. And they will be around en masse at our careers
fairs.
If you would like a chance to overhaul your resume,
get to work directly with graduate recruiters and get
to know about careers management then look out for the
next recruitment round later in 2007.

MOBILE CAREERS SERVICE
We will be getting out onto campus over the month of
March. Pop in and chat to our staff and our Careers
Service Interns. Pick up some brochures or CD’s,
or get some quick advice.

at Wollongong may not be easily accessible. If this
is the case, you might like to email our office (careers@uow.edu.au)
