GRADUATE LABOUR MARKET CONTINUES TO IMPROVE

In the last 2 weeks a number of reports have been released which indicate better opportunities for graduates. Graduate Careers Australia survey graduates across the country each year. Their latest release found here http://www.graduatecareers.com.au/content/view/full/2652 provides useful details on employment destinations for various disciplines and starting salaries. UOW has once again been one of the leaders for grads finding work.

A second report prepared for the Australian Association of Graduate Employers shows an increase of 13.9% in graduate jobs being offered for early 2007 compared to the start of 2006. The Commonwealth government which has offered 24.1% of all vacancies expects to increase its numbers by 41% for the 2007 intake. Across the sectors surveyed, 22.8% of vacancies were in accounting, and 16.3% were in management. (please note that this survey seeks the views of large recruiters of graduates and is not necessarily a reflection across all sectors of the labour market)

OPENING HOURS OVER THE SUMMER HOLIDAY BREAK

The Careers Service will be closed from 12 noon on Friday 22nd December until Tuesday 2nd January. In that first week of January we will have a number of staff on leave and then back to normal operations from Monday 8th January, operating 9-5.
