Mardella Bassett

Hi, I am Mardella and I am the Faculty Careers Consultant for SMAH. My name is unusual (people often want to call me Marcella which is much more Italian and romantic) and I have lived a fairly unusual life. Being the daughter of a soldier and diplomat, I spent most of my early life roaming the world and I have kept on moving. However my main claim to fame is that I was the first female Haulpak (200 tonne truck) driver for BHP which, I am told, put me in the Longreach Hall of Fame. These days I prefer to drive a Getz and use my vast working experience helping others find the career path that is right for them.

I started working as an International Careers Consultant with Careers Central at the University of Wollongong in 2007, as a lecturer in career development in the Masters of Professional Accounting; Masters of Professional Engineering; Master of Technology Engineering and Certificate in Global Workplace Practice.

My previous work has been varied including positions with COAG, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, BHP Billiton, Swinburne University (VIC) and TAFE NSW. I hold a Masters of Adult Education, Certificate IV in Career Development, Certificate in TESOL, Certificate IV Workplace Training, and most recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Business Coaching and I am also a Justice of the Peace - and life goes on and so will yours! I can help you identify your career pathway that fits your skills and interests, as well as provide you with additional career advice and job search resources.
