If one answers yes to the above five questions one has met the essential requirements for a volunteer work experience opportunity with a Solicitor assisting him to provide a low cost legal service to qualifying clients modelled on the Pro Bono Reduce Fee model, in Downing Centre Local Court Complex 143-147 Liverpool Street Sydney between the hours of 8 a.m. & 4.30 p.m. on the following Fridays:

The First Friday of each month;

Whenever there is a fifth Friday in any month.

Additional Info: This Volunteer work experience opportunity is open to all students meeting the specified selection criteria appearing in this add from first year to final year who are studying Law alone or Law combined with one or more other non-law degrees.

No prior knowledge nor experience of any kind is required.

Successful applicants shall undertake the below listed duties in a group of four to six students selected from a roster of such students on each day under the direct personal supervision and direction of Robert Nixon, The sole practising Solicitor providing this volunteer opportunity in Downing Centre Local Court complex 143-147 Liverpool Street Sydney:
  • Interview in detail potential clients taking detailed notes on all that one discovers in such interviews;
  • Explain in detail to each potential client the nature of the service being offered to each of them;
  • Liaise with court staff, the police prosecutor & the RTA representative;
  • Take detailed notes while Robert Nixon, the solicitor providing this opportunity, interviews each actual client in detail;
  • Assist Robert Nixon, the Solicitor providing this service, to present each client's case to the magistrate by passing documents to him, that he nominates for this purpose;
  • Assist Robert Nixon, the solicitor providing this service, to prepare any matter for hearing if and when a plea of not guilty is entered on behalf of such client by undertaking detailed legal research and other nominated tasks;
  • If & when an adjournment is granted for any reason, assist Robert Nixon, the solicitor providing this service, to fully prepare the matter for the next time it is due to be presented in court on a plea or mention basis or any other basis or reason by undertaking detailed legal research and other nominated tasks.
