Job Title: Uni Connections Tutor Assistants
Job Specification: Provide tutoring and/or mentoring to school students in conjunction with school teachers and Uni Connections Co-ordinator. Tutoring and/or mentoring tasks may involve groups of students or individual students with teacher supervision. Tutor assistants will be required to travel to schools located within the Illawarra region and be flexible in terms of activities organised at individual schools. Successful applicants will be required to sign a Child Protection Prohibited Employment Declaration Form.
Essential Skills: Good academic standing and the ability to work with upper primary, and junior, mid and senior high schools students. Strong interpersonal skills underpinned by communication, empathy and sensitivity will be needed in this role. Willingness to follow direction from school teachers and flexibility in terms of time availability to fit in with a variety of school activities. The desire to help raise the educational capacity of students from disadvantaged backgrounds and share your positive educational and UOW experiences.
Desirable Skills: The schools being targeted in this program are part of the NSW Department of Education and Training, Priority Schools Program (PSP) and include Corrimal High School, Keira High School, Lake Illawarra High School, Kanahooka High School, Warrawong High School and Illawarra Senior College. Ideally applicants would have attended one of these schools or a similar public high school in the Illawarra region.
Additional Info: The role is casual - based upon Student Rate 1 - approximately $20 per hour. Total hours of work between now and the end of the school year will vary but may be in the order of anywhere between 20 and 50 hours, depending upon which school you are linked with, and the activities taking place at that school. Some on campus activities may also form part of the role.
