Job Specification: VOLUNTEER IN VANUATU WITH YOUTH CHALLENGE AUSTRALIA!! ‘Practical experience in project management in a cross-cultural team in Vanuatu’ Project dates: -Early December – Mid February (10 weeks) What’s included? -Accommodation -Meals -Internal transport -Insurance -Orientations Why Vanuatu? * Contribute positively to your region * Work alongside local Ni-Vanuatu youth and contribute to their career development and training * Live in a local village and gain a unique insight into a traditional ‘kastom’ way of life * Gain hands-on experience in community development through planning and managing a small-team project * Gain practical experience in project management through your part in project Leadership Teams * Gain leadership and cross-cultural experience. * Raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, contribute to youth development, improve disaster response awareness, improve health and hygiene levels Location: The 80 or so habitable islands of Vanuatu straddle the Pacific Ring of Fire, giving residents a roller coaster ride of volcanic activity and tremors. On some islands the land erupts out of the seabed to rise nearly 2000m (6560ft) above sea level, on others coral atolls and rocky islets lie only a few metres above it. Despite being a well renowned holiday spot, Vanuatu faces significant social and economic issues. The main community development needs of Vanuatu concern its youth unemployment and alienation, its geographical isolation from infrastructure on the remote islands, its reliance on foreign aid, the lack of a productive sector, minimal formal education, domestic violence, and maternal & child health problems. Youth Challenge Australia also provides fundraising support!
