Job Title: Social Support Companion
Job Specification: 1. To assist communication between Personal Care assistants and respite clients whom are older frail people from Non-English speaking backgrounds. AND / OR 2. To independently provide friendly visiting to older frail people from Non-English speaking backgrounds. Duties Include companionship, letter reading, accompany persons to doctors appointments or shopping. Time required as little as 2 hrs per fortnight, or more. Mon to Thurs 9am to 5pm to suit volunteer.
Essential Skills: 1.Drivers Licence and access to a registered vehicle for client appointment. 2. Bilingual. Sound verbal communication skills in both English and one of the following community languages; Arabic, Polish, Finnish, German, French, Turkish, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Ukrainian, Macedonian, Filipino, Mandarin and Croatian or any other community language.
Desirable Skills: *Enjoy working with people. *Ability to work independently. *Reliability
Additional Info: *Opportunity for language students to practice communication skills. *Opportunity to gain work experience and enhance resumes. *Volunteer must be willing to undergo a police check. All successful applicants will initially accompany one of our workers on client visits as a trial for volunteers to assess weather this type of volunteer work suits them.
