Job Seeking
- Effective Resumes
Learn how presentation and content can create an impact with your target audience. - Answering Selection Criteria and Online Forms
Learn how to connect with your audience and provide evidence for their selection criteria on paper and online. - Resume Rescue
Applying for a graduate role? Could your resume do with some refining? If so, bring a hardcopy of your resume, or job application, to this workshop and participate in a group review. You must have attended a regular resume workshop and updated and proofed your resume prior to attending. - Effective Interview Techniques
Learn about researching your audience and yourself, so you can be persuasive in your answers and deal with difficult situations. - Interview Skills Practice WorkshopPrerequisite completion of the Effective Interview Techniques workshop where you learn about researching your audience and yourself, so you can be persuasive in your answers and deal with difficult situations. The interview skills practice workshop is a practical workshop where in pairs you will practice answering interview questions (e.g. open questions, hypothetical / scenario based questions and behavioural questions). So come along and participate and practice. You will get instant feedback on how to improve the content of your answers and your delivery.
- Dealing with Assessment Centres
Learn how to cope with the varied activities which employers now include - such as testing, presentations, and group exercises. - Creative Job Seeking
Learn how to be proactive and seek out knowledge which leads to opportunities. - Making a Successful Start in Your New Job
This workshop is for students and graduates who have just obtained their first job. The workshop will include employee and employer responsibilities including basic employment law and workplace behaviour. Everything you need to ensure you make a confident start in your new role and make a good impression on your employer. A prerequisite for this workshop is that you have obtained employment.

Gone are the days when a resume was a basic, proforma document. It is now regarded as one of the most important marketing tools for securing career opportunities. It will become your professional life story and lead to job interviews and job offers. Learn the basic elements for developing a professional resume; what makes a resume stand out; how to develop appropriate content and a tailored document which will make an impact and work effectively as your personalised career marketing tool. - The Elevator Speech
The Elevator Speech is a common tool used by professionals to deliver a summary or introduction and make an impact, when there is only a limited time to do so. The namesake comes from the time span of an elevator ride, the chance meeting of someone important and the period it takes to introduce yourself and make an impression before the doors open and the opportunity has passed you. Have you been encouraged to “door knock” on potential employers in the hope of making an impression and securing employment? The Elevator Speech is an effective tool and will give you the competitive edge in securing employment following the completion of your degree. - How to Shine at Interview
The job interview will be an essential element to securing a teaching role. It is a mandatory requirement and the competition is fierce. So how do you make an impression and stand out against other candidates? Preparation is the key and attendance at this workshop is the first step. Here you will learn the important elements of interview, what goes on behind the scenes, what the employer is seeking from you and how the selection process works. You will also hear first-hand some important tips that will ensure you shine at interview! - Selection Criteria for Teachers
Addressing selection criteria is a very important element to securing a teaching role. It will become relevant when applying for transfers, promotions and secondments. It is a mandatory requirement and demands high level analysis and writing skill. Attend this workshop and hear first-hand some industry tips for writing and addressing selection criteria and in particular what makes a selection criteria document an interesting and compelling read.
INTR100 Careers Internships: Internship Ready Workshop Series
INTR100 is not only a new workshop series, it is also a zero credit point subject open to both domestic and international students from any discipline, at undergraduate or postgraduate level. To be eligible to complete the program students will need to attend the following Internship Ready Workshop Series (3 hours in total), as well as complete an internship, or a work placement or one of UOW’s Work Related Learning Programs.

- Campus Ready Workshop
If you want to be notified of new casual jobs on campus, you need to complete this workshops.
This workshop is specifically designed for students looking for a Casual Job on the UOW campus. The Campus Ready Workshop is highly regarded by campus employers who hire students for casual jobs and is highly recommended as a way to build your skill set and increase your employability. On completion of the workshop, students will become part of the Jobs on Campus Talent Pool who will be notified of new casual jobs on campus and who will be eligible to apply for UOW Campus Talent Pool students ONLY positions!
International Students
- International Student Workshop A: Introduction to the Australian Workplace
This workshop aims to prepare international students for the recruitment process in Australia. Open to all international students, IWS is run over 2x 1hr sessions which will address job seeking and job application strategies.
Workshop A will provide you with practical job seeking resources tailored for international students. This will include topics such as graduate programs, the Australian labour market, volunteering, networking and addressing cultural barriers during recruitment and employment. - International Student Workshop B: Preparation for the Australian Workplace
Workshop B will focus on getting your resume right. As an international student, it is important to create a resume which is tailored to your industry and addresses the needs of Australian employers. This workshop will look at the importance of marketing yourself by improving the content, layout and language of your resume.
Prerequisite: Please ensure you have attended workshop A before attending workshop B.
