Careers Central Workshops

We offer these to better prepare you for the challenges in obtaining a graduate position at the end of your degree – or for students who are interested in vacation work, scholarships and other job seeking activities

We advise that you to take the 'Job Seeking' sessions in sequence order (1 - 7) – as each workshop builds upon the learning outcomes of the previous workshop.

Our workshops are:

Job Seeking

  1. Effective Resumes
    Learn how presentation and content can create an impact with your target audience.
  2. Answering Selection Criteria and Online Forms
    Learn how to connect with your audience and provide evidence for their selection criteria on paper and online.
  3. Resume Rescue
    Applying for a graduate role? Could your resume do with some refining? If so, bring a hardcopy of your resume, or job application, to this workshop and participate in a group review. You must have attended a regular resume workshop and updated and proofed your resume prior to attending.
  4. Effective Interview Techniques
    Learn about researching your audience and yourself, so you can be persuasive in your answers and deal with difficult situations.
  5. Dealing with Assessment Centres
    Learn how to cope with the varied activities which employers now include - such as testing, presentations, and group exercises.
  6. Creative Job Seeking
    Learn how to be proactive and seek out knowledge which leads to opportunities.
  7. Making a Successful Start in Your New Job
    This workshop is for students and graduates who have just obtained their first job. The workshop will include employee and employer responsibilities including basic employment law and workplace behaviour. Everything you need to ensure you make a confident start in your new role and make a good impression on your employer. A prerequisite for this workshop is that you have obtained employment. 
       

Jobs on Campus

  1. Campus Ready Workshop 
    If you want to be notified of new casual jobs on campus, you need to complete this workshops.

    This workshop is specifically designed for students looking for a Casual Job on the UOW campus. The Campus Ready Workshop is highly regarded by campus employers who hire students for casual jobs and is highly recommended as a way to build your skill set and increase your employability. On completion of the workshop, students will become part of the Jobs on Campus Talent Pool who will be notified of new casual jobs on campus and who will be eligible to apply for UOW Campus Talent Pool students ONLY positions!
           

International Students

  1. Finding part-time or casual work in Australia
    A workshop for international students on how to find part-time or casual work in Australia. This workshop includes tips on where to look for jobs, how to prepare your resume and knowing what Australian employers are looking for.

  • Please choose the workshop and date and time which suits you

Throughout the year we offer workshops specifically designed for individual faculties or disciplines. These include Education, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing. Keep a look out for details about these in your faculty – watch the faculty notice boards or check with the faculty office.

  • The Edge
    You can pick up a copy of  'The Edge' from the Careers Central office. This publication deals with getting started, applying on paper, applying online, creative job seeking, the job interview and gives you sample resumes to use as a guide. You can also view 'The Edge' online here.
  • Videos
    Careers Central has a series of job seeking videos which you may access in the Careers Central office. The videos cannot be borrowed but you are welcome to watch them in our office.
