2009 Employer Information
Improving Students’ Workplace Readiness
Students’ exposure to and experience of the workplace is being increasingly recognised as important to
students’ workplace readiness. Therefore, in addition to internship type programs that may be provided
in some faculties, the UOW Careers Service provides additional programs to achieve this objective. In
addition to improving the employability of UOW graduates, some employers may find these programs
complement their graduate recruitment strategies. Involvement in these additional programs provides
employers the opportunity to raise their profile with students as well as to identify talent.
EEP - Employment Experience Program
The Employment Experience Program aims to
provide students with the opportunity to apply their
acquired skills and knowledge in a practical way.
This is achieved by students working voluntarily
on a project for a local organisation. The student’s
skills are matched with the organisation’s needs
on a project that is completed in up to three weeks
full time or equivalent part time work.

UI - Univative Illawarra
Univative Illawarra aims to provide students with
the opportunity to apply their acquired skills and
knowledge in a practical way while developing
their teamwork skills. This is achieved by students
working in cross-disciplinary teams to research and
respond to a ‘real-life’ business problem identified
by a local organisation. Univative Illawarra is held
bi-annually during Summer and Winter Recess.

Mentoring Program
The Lucy Mentoring Program aims to
inspire, motivate and educate women about
the opportunities available for employment and
leadership in the private and public sectors. This
is being achieved by establishing relationships
between students and mentors who are working
professionals.

CGWP - Certificate in Global Workplace Practice
The Certificate in Global Workplace Practice aims
to support international students to improve their
employability in both Australia and overseas.
This is achieved by educating students as to
the expectations of Australian employers both
in recruitment and in the workplace. This is
complemented by a summer work experience
placement with local organisations.
