Higher Education Workplace Skills Olympiad [HEWSO]

This program is not available until further notice.
Check out alternative 'Workplace Learning Programs' here.

Summer Program (24 January to 18 February 2005)

Here's what Team Yellow UOW- National ‘Runners up’ in 2004 HEWSO said: "Thank you for organising HEWSO and making this event such a great and worthwhile experience. We hope many more students will be able to participate in this and similar projects." - “thank you for organising HEWSO, it was a great experience and subsequently led to the beginning of a great job.” Clare Hathway, Blue Team.

How it works

Each participating university may have up to 5 student teams. The teams are presented with a business issue/problem and set the task of presenting their solution one month later. The host employer then selects the strongest UOW team to go forward to the national finals to compete against the other universities involved.

In 2001 we were linked with Nortel, Centrelink in 2002, the Illawarra Credit Union in 2003, and BlueScope Steel in 2004. Initiated by the National Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (NAGCAS), HEWSO is part funded by the Department of Education Science and Training (DEST) and has the support and endorsement of the following major organisations:

Open to any discipline, undergraduate or postgraduate, domestic or international students - all are welcome to be involved!

Preference will be given to final and penultimate year students. With a maximum of 40 students we recommend you apply early. Send an email to Sue Rejske to register your interest now. To get a clearer picture of what are some of the potential benefits of HEWSO go to Graduate Careers Australia and search for 'HEWSO'.

Students who wish to register their interest in the HEWSO program can do this from here. Employers who wish to register their interest in the HEWSO program can do this from here.

Timing

Held each year during Summer recess. The 2005 HEWSO will be held from 24th January to 18th February 2005.
