What is CareerStart?
Do you know where you are heading after your degree?
Do you need help planning for your future career?
UOW is keen to ensure that all students make the most of their uni experience. Knowing where you are heading after your university studies can increase motivation and success at uni.
CareerStart has been provided to assist you to:
- Make sound course and career choices
- Make a successful transition to university and on to your future career
- Make connections between your course of study and where it might lead
- Progress your own career pathway
With CareerStart you can:
- Learn online with a series of modules and activity books
- Discuss your ideas and options via a careers counselling appointment
- Then test out your ideas through GQEST or other workplace learning activities
What's Involved?
5 CareerStart modules offered as online activities alongside your formal studies.

The content in each module is designed to help you at different stages in your time at UOW.
First and Second year students are encouraged to start with the modules on Self Awareness, Thriving at Uni & Course Exploration.
Students in second year and above are encouraged to explore these modules along with Defining my Opportunities and Career Decision Making.
What is the time commitment?
CareerStart includes information, links to other websites and self-directed activity books to support your career planning. Each module and activity book should take approximately 1 – 1.5hours to complete.
What is GQEST?
Another great program is GQEST, GQEST involves teams of students researching their degree and the employment options. A key part of the project is that students interview employers, linking employability skills to the Graduate Qualities.

Whats Happening @ Careers Central
Stepping into… - is a paid internship program, specifically designed for students with a disability who want to get paid, hands-on work experience in an industry that is relevant to their degree and chosen field of study. Details here.
