Workshops

We offer these to better prepare you for the challenges in obtaining a graduate position at the end of your degree - but these would also be very helpful for students who are interested in vacation work, scholarships and other job seeking situations.

Our workshop series cover the following topics:

Job Seeking

  • Effective Resumes
    Learn how presentation and content can create an impact with your target audience.
  • Answering Selection Criteria and Online Forms
    Learn how to connect with your audience and provide evidence for their selection criteria on paper and online.
  • Dealing with Assessment Centres
    Learn how to cope with the varied activities which employers now include - such as testing, presentations, and group exercises.
  • Creative Job Seeking
    Learn how to be proactive and seek out knowledge which leads to opportunities.
  • Effective Interview Techniques
    Learn about researching your audience and yourself, so you can be persuasive in your answers and deal with difficult situations.
  • Job Seeking for International Students
    Learn about the recruitment process and the workplace culture in Australia. Get tips and strategies to help you apply for jobs.
  • Ethics in Graduate Recruitment
    Learn about the responsibilities for both employers and candidates when graduate roles are offered.
  • Effective Job Application Preparation
    Reflect on and record your experiences for future job application processes. Get persuasive in job applications via ePortfolios.

  • You must register online for these workshops!
  • Maximum number of students for the above workshops is: 15!
  • Please register early to ensure your place!
  • Please choose the workshop and date and time which suits you
    - details are on the online registration form.
  • You ONLY need to register ONCE per workshop series!

Faculty Specific Workshops

Throughout the year we offer workshops specifically designed for individual faculties or disciplines. These include Education, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing. Keep a look out for details about these in your faculty – watch the faculty notice boards or check with the faculty office.

    Need help with essay writing? Not so good with your presentation skills? Then go along to one of the learning development centre’s workshops in areas such as critical reading, pronunciation and academic writing.

    This is a great opportunity for students to learn real skills
    in a fun environment. Workshops are practical and interactive
    with a focus on skills that can be applied to all disciplines

These include:

  • The Edge

You can pick up a copy of  'The Edge' from the Careers Service office, available both as hard copy or as CDRom. This publication deals with getting started, applying on paper, applying online, creative job seeking, the job interview and gives you sample resumes to use as a guide. You can also view 'The Edge' online here.

  • Videos

The Careers Service has a series of job seeking videos which you may access in the Careers Service office. The videos cannot be borrowed but you are welcome to watch them in our office.

  1. Health Sciences Careers Fair - Mark the 23rd July 2008 in your diaries now! The fair will be held in the Foyer of Building 41 from 10.30am - 1.30pm. Participating organisations will be targeting students from the following areas: Drug and Alcohol Counsellors, Health Sciences, Psychology, Social Work/Sciences, Sociology, Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Consultants, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Clinical Psychology, and Biological Science.
