Energy Audit Report
Extensive energy saving projects including comprehensive lighting upgrades and energy efficient heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems across the campus has been carried out. It is estimated that these are accruing savings of approximately 9,300 GJ per annum. A series of other projects with the potential to save an additional 3,500 GJ per annum are at various stages of delivery.
The University has received a NSW Bronze “Green Globe Award” in 2001, a Silver “Green Globe Award” in 2003 and a Gold “Green Globe Award” in 2005 from the NSW Minister for Utilities in recognition of achieving significant energy savings.
An Energy Saving Action Plan (ESAP) has been developed to ensure the efficient operation of buildings across the Campus. This ESAP has been approved by the NSW Government’s Department of Environment and Climate Change. The ESAP will be implemented 2007 – 2011.

Water Saving Action Plan
The University and the University’s Maintenance and Energy Manager, Mr Chris Hewitt, have been acknowledged by the NSW State Government for helping to achieve significant water savings. At the annual Every Drop Counts Business Program Awards ceremony held on November 15, 2006. Mr Hewitt won an individual award for significant achievements in introducing a number of water saving initiatives, including plans to harvest rainwater from roofs to irrigate sports fields and using vacuum systems in chemistry laboratories that do not use water.
Buildings and Grounds has continued to work closely with Sydney Water and the University’s Faculties of Engineering and Chemistry on water saving projects and overall delivery of the University’s Water Saving Action Plan (WSAP) which was approved by the Minister for Water Utilities on 27 March 2007. The WSAP will be implemented 2007–2011. The University also entered the Sydney Water ‘Do-it-Yourself Programme’ in 2006. This programme will reduce water flows in almost every bathroom/toilet facility on campus in the second half of 2007.
