Dean of Arts

Professor Andrew Wells

Professor Andrew Wells took up his appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Wollongong on 1st September 2003. Prior to this he was Deputy Director of CAPSTRANS (The Centre for Asia Pacific Social Transformation Studies).

Professor Wells is a graduate of Monash University (BA Hons, MA) and the Australian National University (PhD). He has taught politics, history, economic history and Australian studies at Monash University, The University of Melbourne, ANU and since 1984 at Wollongong.

He is the author of Constructing Capitalism (1988), and an editor of Industrial Relations in Australia and Japan (1994), Australian Communism: a Guide to Sources (1996), The Maritime Strikes of the 1890s(1992), A History of Wollongong (1997) and Australian Labour and Regional Change (1998). He is currently working on Australian Communism. He has also written various chapters and articles on Australian economic, labour and intellectual history. Current research interests
are on comparative studies of Australian and South East Asian labour
history.
