The Personnel
Professor John Bern is the Director of SEALCP. The detailed
ethnographic research was primarily conducted at Ngukurr between
1999 and 2002. Kim Oborn was the SEALCP Administrative Assistant
throughout. The research team under Professor Bern included a
Research Fellow with experience in working with Aboriginal people
in remote areas (Dr. John Cook June-September 1999, Dr. Mary Edmonds
April 2000 to February 2001, Ms. Kate Senior September 2001 to
September 2002); two Associate Fellows ( Mr. Aaron Corn February-December
2000, Ms. Kate Senior August 1999 to September 2000) and four
research assistants recruited from the Ngukurr community (Ms.
Daphne Daniels, Mr. Moses Ponto, Ms. Miranda Rodgers, and Mr.
Keith Rodgers).
Two Doctoral research projects have been undertaken within SEALCP.
Dr. Kate Senior was awarded her PhD from the Australian National
University in 2003 for her thesis entitled ‘A Gudbala Laif?
Health and wellbeing in a remote Aboriginal community- what are
the problems and where lies responsibility?’. Ms. Rosemary
O’Donnell is continuing her research on Aboriginal Christianity
and the dialectics of identification.
