Book Completion Grant
The Grant will provide funds to an ISTR member or associate member (currently employed by the Faculty of Arts in a teaching and research position) to enable them to complete a book. The funds will cover a one off 0.5FTE reduction in teaching for one semester (for someone on a 0.5FTE teaching load this will mean a 100% reduction in teaching). Only ISTR members and associate members are eligible to apply. The book must already be under contract with a publisher, with a clearly specified delivery date. The application must provide evidence of significant progress to date and provide a clear timeline for completion. Preference will be given to applicants whose book will be completed during the period of the grant.
Selection Process:
- Applications must be submitted to Leonie Clement by 5pm Friday May 11, 2012. Results will be announced on May 18, 2012.
- Applications must address the selection criteria.
- Applications must provide evidence of a valid book contract.
- Applications must provide a statement of support from the relevant Head of Unit confirming: (1) that the project will enhance the applicant’s research profile; (2) that the project is consistent with the applicant’s CDI; (3) that the teaching release can be managed without negative impact on the organisation or quality of the School’s teaching program.
- Applications must be submitted using the Book Completion Grant application form and follow the Book Completion Grant Guidelines.
Any queries regarding the grant or the process may be directed to Ian Buchanan
Small Project Grants
ISTR accepts funding applications for research projects and events throughout the year. Please feel free to discuss your project idea and funding needs with ISTR Director Ian Buchanan at any time.
Please use the designated form and submit your applications to Robert Beretov. If you have previously received ISTR funding you will need to include a report on the use of that funding. When developing your applications, please bear the following points in mind.
- The purpose of this funding initiative is to provide seed funding for research projects which will enhance the performance and profile of ISTR as UOW Research Strength. Proposed projects must demonstrate that they will lead to tangible outcomes such as applications for external grants, publications, and/or research collaborations.
- ISTR funding is targeted at developing and encouraging projects that will establish or enhance an individual or team’s track record so as to be competitive for university and external grants schemes will be prioritised.
- Projects that encourage participation by non-ISTR members, including ECRs, will be prioritised.
- Preference will be given to research projects that fall within developing or established research excellence areas as identified in the current ERA round.
- The grant may be used for research assistance, fieldwork, visiting speakers, workshops and other research expenses. It may not be used for conference travel, teaching or marking buyout or for equipment.
- Funding is limited to $5000 maximum per project.
- Budgets should be based on actual costs of travel and accommodation, including the cheapest viable modes of ground travel and air travel quotations from the University’s preferred agent Internet Travel. Airfare quotes should be quoted for the actual time of travel to avoid increases.
- New applications for funding cannot be accepted without an acquittal of funds previously awarded. For recently completed projects, the acquittal can be submitted along with the new application.
