About Alpheus
Alpheus was established in order to showcase the work of the post-graduate research students within the Faculty of Arts of the University of Wollongong. It is seen as a means of communication within the Faculty, the University environs and the broader academic community.
The following themes form the bedrock on which Alpheus is built:
- Promoting opportunity - Alpheus is a platform upon which all post-graduate students within the Faculty of Arts can both hone their writing skills and build publishing experience. It can be viewed as a stepping-stone to external publication. First time and nascent publishers are particularly invited to submit works. It is meant to provide a forum for ideas to be tested and refined; as such 'working papers' are encouraged.
- Recognising Diversity - We recognise that across the disciplines within the Faculty of Arts there is a great diversity of research. Alpheus is a vehicle for demonstrating this diversity within the broader framework of discovering interconnections and intersections within research across disciplines.
- Cutting Edge - The work of the post-graduates students in the Faculty of Arts is at the forefront of the research across our various disciplines. The work is innovative; students engage in critical thought in a manner unique to this Faculty and University.
- Creative expression - The journal seeks to highlight a creative 'attack on the normative thought' by showcasing individual work within a collective forum. By extension then, part of the mission of the journal is to provide the contributors with a means to critically reflect not only on their own, but also on the work of their fellow post-graduates. In so doing it is anticipated that links across disciplines will be strengthened and the Faculty enriched as a result.
