Alpheus is now seeking submissions for the next edition to be published early in 2007.
Submissions are due by December 22, 2006. For details on how to submit, please see the Submissions page.
Since its inception in 2004, Alpheus has had as its aim the promotion of and practice in publishing experience for the Faculty of Arts postgraduate researchers.
We have enjoyed a great deal of success, with individual contributors receiving attention for their work and the journal receiving attention from the National Library of Australia.
In line with the changing nature of publishing in general, and the increased push towards publications as a measure of success for graduates, the Editorial Committee has decided to move Alpheus a step closer to the full experience of publishing ‘in the real world'.
To do this, we have enlisted a group of enthusiastic and supportive academic staff within the Faculty to act as blind referees for papers submitted. Feedback will be given on writing quality, the level of scholarship, and the originality of content of articles submitted to Alpheus in the same form as occurs when submitting to professional academic journals. The aim of this is to provide students with an avenue for feedback outside of the supervision environment, without having to risk the potential hostility of the professional publishing world. The editorial committee will consult with its team of referees to provide clear guidelines for feedback and the Editors will remain the points of contact between referees and authors.
This process has been approved by the Faculty Research Committee and the first edition of an internally-refereed Alpheus will appear in early 2007. Potential authors are encouraged to consider presenting a paper at the end of year Arts Postgrad conference and then have that paper revised for submitting to Alpheus by the end of the year for refereeing over the summer break. The usual selection criteria (as set out on the Submissions page) will still apply.
If you have any enquiries about this process please do not hesitate to contact the Editors of Alpheus.
We look forward to taking Alpheus, and Arts Faculty Postgrads, to the next level in preparation for academic publishing.
