ARC Discovery Grant Success!
28 October 2009
This morning the Australian Research Council (ARC) announced the outcomes of the Discovery Project grant applications submitted in 2009 for 2010 funding. This year our Faculty has two succesful projects one for Richard Menary and David Simpson based at UOW and one for Mark McLelland based at UNSW which includes a Australian Postdoc Fellowship for Dr K Lee which will be based at UOW.
Congratulations Richard, David and Mark on their success!
Project Title: Embodied Virtues and Expertise
Dr R Menary; Dr DI Simpson; Prof DD Hutto; Prof SA Gallagher; Prof C Winch
Project Summary
The Project will provide a theoretical framework for understanding expertise. Crucially, the framework will provide an account that explains the motivation of experts, and allows for the virtues of experts to be analysed and promoted. The framework will thus fill a perceived gap in professional pedagogical disciplines such as Education, Nursing Education, and Medicine, in which the concept of expertise is central, but for which an adequate theoretical framework of expertise is lacking. Academics and practitioners from these disciplines will participate in conferences and workshops run under the Project.
Project Title: Internet History in Australia and the Asia Pacific
Prof GM Goggin; A/Prof MJ McLelland; Dr H Yu; Dr K Lee
Project Summary
Internet History in Australia and the Asia Pacific will compare the development and uses of the Internet in Australia, with those of China, Korea, and Japan, key trading partners and innovators. This internationally significant project will provide an up to date history of the Internet in the world's most dynamic economic region, the Asia Pacific. Internet infrastructure and technology is critical to Australia's economic, social, and cultural
future, and this project aims to provide critical and timely insights to take forward national debate, policy, and practice. Findings will be reported through an innovative website, industry report and workshop, and targeted academic and general publications.
