Arts - FRC Funding Initiatives for
Academic Staff & Postgraduate Students

FRC Funding Initiative guidelines

The Faculty of Arts provides a number of competitive support schemes to assist research by Academic Staff and Higher Degree by Research Students.

Academic Support

The Faculty recognises that conference presentation and quality research activities are important means to achieve the research outcomes expected within academic terms of employment.  The Faculty provides a number of competitive support schemes to help staff achieve high quality research outcomes such as publications and collaboration with external research partners. Faculty support also serves as seed funding towards applications for University, National Competitive or other external grant schemes. Faculty research funding is aimed at supporting individual and groups in building their research profile and becoming more competitive in bids for external grants.

Staff are also encouraged to incorporate research activities into their Study Leave, using Study Leave Assistance Grant (SLAG) and applying for a wide range of external grants in order to cover the cost of their research, thus enabling the Faculty to maximise the spread of internal support.

HDR Student Support

The Faculty considers research support (including fieldwork) and conference presentation as integral and important parts of a researcher’s professional training.  The Faculty provides limited support for HDR Student conference presentations, and for research projects (including fieldwork) that are essential to the completion of the thesis project. These schemes are competitive and in order to qualify for funding, the student’s conference/research activities must have been identified during the application process, the 1st Year Proposal Review or in Annual Progress Reports (APRs).
