Illawarra Mercury Prize for Communication Studies
Donated by the Illawarra Mercury
Presented by Carol Johnstone, Chief of Staff
Awarded to the student with the highest average mark in 16 credit points of, Journalism subjects at 300 level over a 12 month period extending from Autumn to Spring and the following Summer Session. The minimum performance requirement is a High Distinction (85% or better) in both subjects. Students must be enrolled in either the Journalism specialisation of the Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies, the Bachelor of Journalism or undertaking a double degree in the BCM/BJour.

The John Passmore Applied Philosophy Essay Prize
Recognises essays that make a contribution to problems of practical concern to be awarded to the student who writes the best essay submitted for assessment during 2006 from among those submitted in the following upper level (8 credit point) subjects: PHIL301, 322, 350, 351, 361, 362, 370, 372 or 390.

Industrial Relations Society of NSW Prize
Open to candidates who have completed the two introductory Industrial Relations subjects in eighteen months prior to the awarding of the prize. The student who has the highest weighted mark for MGMT142 Industrial Relations A and MGMT240 Industrial Relations B will be awarded the prize.

Open to students enrolled in MGMT240 Industrial Relations B. The prize will be awarded to the student who submits the best critical essay. The essay topic is one which may be chosen as part of the normal assessment for MGMT240 and is noted as such in the introduction to the subject outline.

Dean's Merit List
The Dean's Merit List for academic performance is compiled each year after declaration of results following Spring Session. The list is based on the top 5% of students determined by the Weighted Average Mark achieved by each student over at least 24 credit points in two consecutive sessions.
Students who achieve this standard will receive a letter of congratulations from the Dean as well as having the achievement noted on their official University record and on their academic transcript.
