2nd Year: Brittany Reeves - br968@uow.edu.au
I am a 2nd year student studying a Bachelor of Arts (Dean’s Scholars), with a major in history and military history, as well as medieval/early modern literature, and after graduating, I aim to complete a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. I work part-time in retail and am passionate about my job with PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) Program at UOW as a leader in AUST101 and AUST102.
3rd Year: Jennifer Burgess – jmb107@uow.edu.au
I intend to graduate at the end of 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics and Philosophy. I have a desire to go onto to do Honours and postgraduate studies. I work 4 days a week in an administration and part sales role with an Australian company which involves working with and speaking to engineers and others who work in industry. I have a passion for knowledge and, as well as those subjects I have already mentioned, I am interested in English, psychology and economics. As part of my graduate studies I hope to learn French. I believe in democratic participation, and I greatly encourage anyone to email me with suggestions, ideas or problems that you are encountering within your politics or history subjects.
Honours: Lauren Mason - ljm332@uow.edu.au
I am currently studying Honours in politics and am really enjoying it. I graduated in December last year with a major in Politics and realized that I wanted to study further at University. Undertaking Honours has not only been an enormous challenge, it has also allowed me to explore my passions a little more deeper and given me the chance to research something I am really interested in. As a politics student, I was subject to a lot of frustrating facts about the world, particularly about the state of the developing world. This frustration drove me to pursuing research in this area and for my Honours thesis I will be attempting to explain challenges to development of East Timor as a Post-conflict State.
Postgraduate: Debbie Jensen - dlj02@uow.edu.au
I am in the final stages of my PhD thesis in the School of History & Politics. I am interested in the development of what many have characterized as a ‘neo-conservatism’ in Australia and how this ‘ism’ developed over time in the journal Quadrant. I have worked as a tutor in Australian Politics, Media and Politics and Culture, and have worked in Arts Central casually for a number of years. Please feel free to contact me if you have any issues, queries or worries that you think I can help with.
School of Social Sciences, Media & Communication
Undergraduate: Grace McBride – gam612@uow.edu.au
I am in my 3rd year of a Bachelor of Media and Communication Studies majoring in Journalism. My time at the University has been an amazing experience and I have met incredible people as well as had fun. Overall my studies at UOW have instilled in me a strong passion for promoting high quality media content in Australia and around the world. I am a keen traveller, and plan to head overseas following my graduation in December. I cannot wait to taste new experiences and further my education on how to communicate them with the rest of the world.
