I joined the Centre for Canadian-Australian Studies upon completion of a Bachelor of Journalism, combined honours mass communications from Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I wanted to obtain work experience that would give me the opportunity to not only apply my journalism training, but the chance to expand on my abilities to develop new skill sets that would eventually make me a more marketable employee. I feel that the Centre for Canadian-Australian Studies has provided a promising opportunity to begin a career in public relations, publishing, advertising, journalism or diplomacy.
I have tremendous confidence and pride in the way I have carried out the responsibilities of my position at the Centre. The job tasks are varied and challenging and include the design, layout, writing, research and editing of the annual newsletter and Nortel books. I have also organized the successful completion of many specialty seminars and presentations like All Canada Day, the Post-grad Forum and the upcoming Canada-Australia Education conference. I have also enjoyed meeting the numerous Australian and Canadian special guests as well as diplomats from the High Commission, including the Canadian High Commissioner to Australia.
After the successful completion of this internship I hope to travel around Australia to gain more exposure of this country. Previously, I have travelled in the United States, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Estonia and after experiencing all these places I'd have to say that Australia is one of my favourites. It's amazing how one unexpected occurrence can change your life for the better. This entire experience has been life enriching. Not only have I gained amazing international work experience, but I have family and friends here that will never leave my thoughts. |
