Winner of 2004's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, "The Barbarian Invasions" is acclaimed Canadian writer/ director Denys Arcand's most personal and moving film to date. Featuring his trademark biting wit, compassion and lyricism, Arcand has created a touching, true and open-hearted film.
Remy is a rumpled bohemian history professor who has devoted his life to wine, women and left-wing causes. Now fighting cancer, there are still plenty of things that get him all fired up — most crucially his thorny relationship with his son, Sebastien, a London investment banker who disagrees with his erudite father on almost everything. Yet Sebastien gathers Remy's old friends by his side, as they both know that at the end all that truly survives is love and friendship. An extremely moving film that is one of the most intelligent and articulate entertainments of the year, "The Barbarian Invasions" is a feast of graceful, funny and sexy drama that is a true pleasure.
