Information for students who enrolled in the BCMS before 2011

The Faculty of Arts undertook a major review of the Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies to ensure that the degree remains up to date with the communication and media industries.  The review resulted in a number of changes that came into effect in 2011.

The structure of the Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies changed in 2011. The changes included:

  • The option of taking any of the new majors as minors

The revised Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies is offering majors in:

Important: Students who are currently enrolled will be able to complete the course as it was advertised in the year that you enrolled.  If the subjects you need are no longer available, we will find you substitutes.  This applies to the degree and to the specializations.

For more detailed information on what subjects to substitute based on the year you enrolled, please see the BCMS Transition Arrangement worksheet.

Frequently asked questions

I'm Majoring in Marketing Communication and Advertising, can I do a Major or Minor in Public Relations?

The new BCMS Major in Marketing Communication and Advertising has been expanded to include subjects in Public Relations. Therefore students cannot combine the Major in Marketing Communication and Advertising with a Major or Minor in Public Relations (from Commerce).

NB: Students who enrolled in the BCMS up to and including the year 2010 can combine the Specialisation in Advertising and Marketing with a Major or Minor in Public Relations.
