Canadian Sub-Chapter of Education Chapter
The Canadian Sub-Chapter was established in 2005 and represents all Canadians who are past University of Wollongong (UOW) graduates of the Diploma of Education program. It is a body that operates relatively independently through a committee to encourage interaction between the graduates and the University. It facilitates the exchange of ideas, information, and the maintenance of relationships between the Alumni Network, the University, and fellow graduates.
Vision
The Vision of the Canadian Sub-Chapter is to facilitate alumni to stay personally and professionally connected, and to enrich the support of each other and the University. We provide an opportunity to share enthusiasm, establish contacts, and meet fellow alumni.
- The primary activity of the Sub-Chapter will be to host an annual reunion. This will give alumni the opportunity to share stories, resources, and tips for the transition from student to professional.
- We would also like to have a person of special interest to alumni (such as a professor or lecturer from the University of Wollongong, or friend of the school) share some thoughts, updates, and stories from back in Australia.
- In addition to an annual gathering we could determine the use of other methods for ongoing contact such as email messages, Facebook, and social gatherings where we would enjoy food, drinks, the company of old friends, and maintain the unique relationships with the alumni.
- The sub-chapter would also like to establish a contact with the current graduating class, so that one member might be nominated for a special mention at the annual reunion. A gift would then be presented to the person, for their mentionable contribution to their year.
The committee will also strive to meet with the O.C.T. to assist graduates in making an easier transition from the Australian classroom to the Canadian. Our goal would be to find out the needs and expectations of the various teaching boards.
The Canadian Sub-Chapter is currently being restructured. We are looking for enthusiastic committee members who have exciting idea's and share a passion for the University of Wollongong and its alumni.
