What does the word 'alumni' mean?

The word 'alumni' means the graduates of a university. The singular term is 'alumnus' (male) or 'alumna' (female) or the non-gender specific 'alum'.

Some universities also encompass past employees into their alumni community.

Do I need to join the alumni community?

Some universities ask their alumni to pay a membership fee to an 'alumni network' to gain the benefits of their university beyond graduation. That is not the case at UOW. We prefer an inclusive and enabling approach, and actively encourage our alumni to stay in touch to continually benefit from UOW.

We use the phrase 'alumni community' to refer to our entire graduate body.
