Community giving program wins international recognition
The UOW Cares Program is now being lauded on the international stage. The program, co-ordinated through UOW’s Office of Community and Partnerships, has won the category of Outreach and Community Relations category in the 2008 Association of Commonwealth Universities PR, Marketing and Communications Awards. iC opens its doors for Innovation Week
The Illawarra Innovation Showcase was held at the Innovation Campus yesterday, as part of the Australian Innovation Festival. With lectures, tours, a competition and an expo, a range of Illawarra organisations showed some of the ground-breaking achievements happening in the region.

A highlight of the Showcase was tours that allowed members of the public to get inside the groundbreaking research labs of the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute. Full story 

University of Wollongong In Dubai launches Study Abroad
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has launched a Study Abroad program that allows undergraduate students from all over the world to study in Dubai for a full semester, combining study with cultural understanding. Students will be able to study subjects such as Doing Business in the Arab and Islamic World and Introductory Arabic Language, in addition to core academic subjects. Full story

Year 11 & 12 University Open Night

If you know someone currently in high school who is considering university study after the HSC, let them know that UOW is hosting a series of events throughout June to help them prepare for the decisions that they will need to make about their future. The University Open Night is a chance for Year 11 and 12 students and their parents to meet University staff, UOW students and graduates, so that they can have their questions answered about gaining entry to uni and choosing a degree. LIVING AT UOW NEWS - What’s happening in the residences?

International House Global Wellbeing Residential Scholarships
In the lead up to the 30 years of International House in 2010, International House plans to raise $5,000 by the end of 2009.  The proceeds will allow International house to offer 5 x $1,000 residential scholarships to residents who have demonstrated intercultural leadership. SydneyAlumni take part in Speed Networking event
Around 60 Sydney alumni attended a ‘speed networking event’ hosted by the Office of Community and Partnerships at the Aurora Bar on the 6th of May.  The event saw participants take part in a series of two minute one-on-one networking sessions, each covering a different business related topic. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Rob Castle welcomed alumni to the event and said that the strong UOW Alumni Network plays an important role in UOW’s success. Full story

Commerce Alumni look at challenges facing Illawarra business
The UOW Commerce Alumni Chapter hosted the first of their networking breakfasts for the year at the Innovation Campus yesterday (Wednesday 29 April). The breakfast series provides a networking and professional development opportunity for UOW alumni.  Alumni are also able to engage with the University and hear about the latest developments and strategic projects for UOW. Campus Chapter Prize Giving Ceremony
The UOW Campus Chapter hosted their annual prize night on Monday 1st of June. The prize night is held each year to award the recipients of the Campus Chapter Honours Prizes and Equity and Merity Scholarship. Congratulations to all students who received a scholarship or prize.

University of Wollongong Cricket Club - 50th Year Celebrations
Calling all former players of the University of Wollongong Cricket Club - your club is approaching its 50th Anniversary Year. As Chas Keys writes in the 20 year Reunion booklet - "The Cricket club came into existence on July 26, 1961, at a meeting of interested students in the Fire Assay room at the old Technical College in Gladstone Avenue".

Season 2010-11 marks our 50th year & we are planning a weekend of Reunion celebrations in January 2011 culminating in the release of the 50 year club history book. If you are a former player at UWCC we want to hear from you to keep you informed about the Reunion and how the club is currently operating.

Volunteers Required for Graduation Ceremonies
Nearly 1500 students will be graduating over six ceremonies between 22 and 24 July. Graduation volunteers are required at each ceremony to greet guests, hand out graduation booklets and direct students & guests to appropriate seating areas.
