Chancellor’s Awards for Achievement in Community Service – Nominations Opening Soon!
The Chancellor’s Awards for Achievement in Community Service were established in 2007 to recognise achievement in community service and to highlight the personal contributions that UOW alumni and others make to the advancement of their society. Two distinguished awards are offered each year; one for UOW alumni and the other for community members (and community groups). Nominations for the Award will be opening soon. Check the Alumni website regularly for details.
AUIAC - Australian Universities International Alumni Convention (AUIAC)
The Australian Universities International Alumni Convention (AUIAC) is a bi-annual event for alumni of Australian Universities. It provides an opportunity for Australian Alumni from around the world to hear speakers and network with other alumni, tertiary and professional institutions, and global partners of these alumni. This year the conference will be held in Singapore from 10 to 13 June at the SUNTEC Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Colourful festival celebrates international students
The Wollongong community showed its appreciation and support of international students on Friday 29 February when it hosted a Civic Reception and Community Festival in their honour. Supported by Wollongong City Council, the University of Wollongong, TAFE and Wollongong College Australia (WCA), the Civic Reception was held on the amphitheatre stage in Crown Street Mall Wollongong and attracted close to 500 people. Accolades for Creative Arts doctoral candidate
John Tranter, Faculty of Creative Arts Doctoral candidate, has won the 2008 South Australian Premier's Award and the Adelaide Writers' Week 2008 John Bray Poetry Award. Full story.

Alumni Bookshop Sale – 25% off all books!
The Alumni Bookshop is having a sale week! All books will be discounted by 25% on Tuesday 15th, Thursday 17th and Saturday 19th April.
The Alumni Bookshop sells a diverse range of quality second-hand books; fiction, non-fiction and textbooks. The Bookshop is run by volunteers from the Alumni Network Campus Chapter. All proceeds from Bookshop sales contribute to scholarships and prizes for students at the University of Wollongong. The Bookshop is situated on Northfields Avenue, Cottage 119, directly opposite the UniCentre entrance. Parking is available at the rear of the Bookshop via Madoline Street.
Community Tours Program
The University is committed to engaging our communities in the life of the University. The Community Tours program provides an opportunity for members of the community to learn about the latest developments in ground-breaking research, engage in the cultural and social life of the University and learn more about the services and facilities available for you to use. Public Lecture: Modern medicine: how long can we live?
The second Uni in The Brewery series for 2008 will be held on Wednesday 7 May at 5.30pm, with Professor Will Yeo from the Graduate School of Medicine as presenter. Full event information.
World Premier of Wounding Song
The School of Music and Drama is busy rehearsing for an exciting season of performances to be presented in May and June on campus and at IPAC, including the world premiere of the chamber opera Wounding Song. More information.
Learning for Life program - Call for Mentors
Students from the Smith Family's Learning for Life (LFL) Tertiary Scholarships program celebrated their graduation at a special function held recently at the University of Wollongong. Full story.
In partnership with UOW, the LFL program invests in the education of disadvantaged Australian youth, providing students from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to participate more fully in the education process.
There are 14 students seeking mentors from various study areas. Scholarship recipients are matched with a career mentor for an alternative avenue of support through their studies. Anyone interested in participated in the Tertiary Mentoring Program, should contact Jennifer Reilly, Learning for Life Team Leader on (02) 4297 0822.
