United Nations Internship for UOW Alumnus
Bachelor of Commerce alumnus and postgraduate student, John Ayala, will be New York bound next month after being selected as one of only 10 from around the world to undertake a coveted internship at the United Nations Headquarters. A Colombian born student, John will join UN peacekeeping operations for two months. Full story

Students Shine at ‘Innovation Idol’
Innovation Idol was staged at UOW on 11 May and proved to be one of the University’s prime events in support of the Australian Innovation Festival and the Illawarra Innovation Showcase. Innovation Idol demonstrated the capacity of UOW research students to develop and pitch a solution to ‘Monday-itis’. Read more

You Can Help Us Breakdown the Barriers
In 2006 the UOW Circle of Visionaries donated over $18,500 to support vital research into prostate cancer and child obesity. This year the Circle of Visionaries will support dementia education and training programs and help young people who are disadvantaged by financial hardship, family or carer commitments, ethnicity, living in a rural or isolated area and disability. You can join the Circle of Visionaries today and help us breakdown the barriers by supporting these vital projects.

Innovation Campus Update
It has been a year since our last report to Alumni on the University’s largest development project – the Innovation Campus (iC). Have Your Say: University Council Graduate Election
The University Council is seeking two UOW graduates to become Council members for a four year term starting on 1 January 2008. Being a member of the University Council is a great opportunity for alumni to contribute to the University and gain experience in corporate governance.

In order to vote in the election you need to register online. To stand for election as a graduate member you will need to complete a nomination form and have it signed by two other UOW graduates. For more information visit http://www.uow.edu.au/about/governance/UOW027049.html.

Award Recognises Alumni Achievement in Community Service – Nominations Now Open
The Chancellor’s Awards for Achievement in Community Service have been established in 2007 to recognise achievement in community service and to highlight the personal contributions that UOW alumni and others make to the advancement of their society. Two distinguished awards are offered each year; one for UOW alumni and the other for community members (or community groups). Each award carries a prize of $2000. Supply Chain Management Education Program
Executives from leading edge companies and researchers associated with the Global Supply Chain Forum at Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, have spent the last decade developing a strategic framework for supply chain management that focuses on managing essential business processes. Now executives have the opportunity to benefit from this knowledge by attending a Sydney Business School open enrolment seminar held from June 25-29. Full event details and registration

Volunteers Required for Graduation Ceremonies
Nearly 1500 students will be graduating over six ceremonies between 18 and 20 July. Graduation volunteers are required at each ceremony to help greet guests and hand out graduation booklets. For more information or to register your interest, email the Alumni Network.

Performance: Mysteries 14 to 16 June 2007
Mysteries is a spiritual journey in song and theatre that incorporates writings by John Milton, Thomas Otway, and the Second Shepherd’s Play from the Wakefield Cycle. Directored by Janys Hayes Mysteries leads the audience through galleries accompanied by choral works by Bach, Monteverdi, and other contemporary composers, including Sarah Hopkins and Patrick Doyle. Australian Scholarships available for study at UOW
A range of Australian scholarships are available for study at UOW under the Australian government’s Australian Scholarships programme. The Australian government has committed AUD$1.4 billion to fund 19,000 scholarships and fellowships over the next 5 years. The broad range of scholarships covers both degree study and shorter term fellowships for research and training. Complete a Postgraduate Degree in Sutherland Shire
Loftus Education Centre offers postgraduate management programs designed to deal with the complex and specific issues impacting on business performance.  The focus is to develop professionally orientated managerial competencies including key professional, personal and technical skills.
