The University of Wollongong signalled a new mood in higher education when it was established in 1951: flexible, highly-motivated and responsive to students' needs. Today, its energetic, entrepreneurial style is increasingly popular.

The University's nine Faculties are Arts, Commerce, Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Health & Behavioural Sciences, Informatics, Law and Science.

The University of Wollongong has a high research profile internationally in areas such as telecommunications, conducting polymers, multimedia, superconductors, global migration patterns, health and international business. It is well known for its research partnerships with industry and was jointly awarded the University of the Year Award by the Good Universities Guide in 1999-2000 for its outstanding research and development partnerships, and jointly again in 2000-2001 for 'preparing graduates for the e-world'.

The University is located in the city of Wollongong, one-hour drive from downtown Sydney. The city is proudly multicultural and offers an excellent range of shopping, cultural and sporting facilities. The main campus, close to the city, but in a beautifully landscaped setting, provides an ideal atmosphere for study and leisure.
