Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International)
Professor Rob Castle, MEc Sydney
Professor Robert Castle is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). He was Chair
of Senate from 1996 - 2000, Dean of Commerce in 2000 and he was the Head
of the Department of Economics from 1990-1998.
His research interests are in Labour Economics and International
Economics. His professional interests lie in the areas of:
Labour, Employment and International Economic Institutions.
He is the author of Evolution of Economic Ideas and
Labour Economics which appear in the Oxford University
Press Focus on Economics series, which he also co-edited.
He also edited Unemployment in the Eighties and Work,
Leisure and Technology and jointly authored with Ann Hodgkinson,
Productivity Wage Bargaining in Local Government. He
recently contributed to a major child labour study for the
government of Vietnam and is involved in a multinational study
of the impact of colonial labour laws on workers in export
industries.
Professor Robert Castle has a long term interest in High School Education
serving on HSC Economics Syllabus Committee between 1975-83; and was Chair
of the New South Wales High School Certificate Economics Examination Committee.
He was the University's representative on the NSW Board of Studies which
oversees school education in New South Wales, from 1998 - 2000.
Professor Castle acted as a consultant to the Federal and State governments
on Aboriginal Employment, including: Consultant - Ministry of Aboriginal
Affairs (NSW) - on Aboriginal Employment (1982-83); Consultant - Australian
Council of Employment and Training, Aboriginal Employment (1987-88). He
has also conducted training courses for high ranking government officials
from Ministries of Trade and Finance, the Central Bank and other agencies
in Vietnam.
