University Librarian

Margie Jantti, BA (Lib Info Sci), MbusAdmin, AALIA

Margie has been a member of the University since 1993. She joined the Library Executive Committee in 2006, providing leadership for the Client Services Division and from 2009, for the Planning and Human Resources Division.

Margie became the University Librarian in 2010.

With over a decade’s experience in quality management and assurance, she is an active contributer to the University’s strategic agenda, notably in the review of Graduate Qualities, the student experience, development and monitoring of quality assurance initiatives for learning and teaching, contribution to the University’s Quality Improvement Plan and AUQA preparations, and membership of the University Planning and Quality Committee. She has been an invited evaluator for national quality awards both in Australia and overseas on numerous occasions.

In 2003, Margie was recognised with the inaugural Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) Achievement Award role in supporting CAUL’s strategic agenda for quality assurance. From 2006 to 2008 she chaired the Quality Assurance Subcommittee of the University Education Committee.

Developments in information and communication technology including the unprecedented array of information resources available online have brought about transformational change in how academics and researchers work, and how results of their work are communicated. Margie sees the role of the library as a reputable interface to aid access to scholarly information resources (owned or available elsewhere); to enrich the research process through planned or serendipitous discovery; by guiding and pointing students and staff to complementary and supplementary materials in multiple formats (data, images, multimedia).

As the recently appointed University Librarian, she is committed to sustaining the Library’s enduring and enviable reputation for quality and service excellence. Chosen strategies will, therefore, focus on the development and delivery of excellent information services across all University sites and networks and improving the community’s understanding of current and future information and research environments and promoting the Library’s expertise in exploiting these environments to the fullest.
