If your students are having learning or studying difficulties, or do not meet the expected language standard - use the information below to find the appropriate level of assistance, discuss with the student/s and refer to the program that suits their needs best.
Student Learning Support has five categories:
Study Support (General):
Online study skills training
Refer any of your students who are having difficulty in any of the following areas: effective writing, academic writing, writing sentences, essay writing, report writing, reading, note taking and critical thinking.
The UniLearning website contains a range of information and interactive activities designed to build on existing study skills.

Self access learning and study resources
For distribution in your class or just to an individual, these handouts cover many areas such as critical thinking, essay writing, studying for examinations, report writing, taking notes in lectures etc.
Visit the Learning Resource Centre to pick up printed copies or alternatively go to the webpage below and each handout can be read on-screen or printed. Links to these resources are also available for WebCT subjects.

Study skills development for students
To help your students develop the academic writing, grammar, editing, reading and time management skills necessary for writing assignments or theses, refer them to the Learning Resource Centre on the Wollongong Campus for an individual consultation or generic workshop or to the Learning Development Lecturer working from the Education Centres.
Available to: To all students currently enrolled at the UOW. Please note that the Learning Resource Centre CANNOT proof-read assignments, essays or theses.

Academic Assignment Assistance (Triple A)
This resource has been designed for students enrolled in flexible delivery learning at the Loftus, South Coast and Southern Highlands Education Centres.
Academic Assignment Assistance is an online learning support site comprising of academic skills resources and WebCT discussion spaces.
Available to: All students and teaching staff at the Education Centres. The WebCT discussion spaces are accessible to students enrolled in subjects delivered to the Education Centres.

Library Support:
Information literacy (library skills) classes
You can arrange information literacy (library skills) classes for your students to learn the required research/library skills appropriate to their field and level of study.
Research/library skills classes are requested by academic members of staff for their students. Each class is tailored according to the requesting faculty/subject.
Available to: Academic staff at UOW.

An online range of resources organised by discipline for easy student access. As well as pointing to Library collections (print and electronic), these pages provide links to evaluated internet sites, professional associations, government and non-government organisations, statistics, legislation and more.

Library online guides & tutorials
A range of online, interactive tutorials have been developed to support the needs of students and staff who prefer self-paced example learning at a time and a place that is convenient to them. Guides to many electronic and print information resources are also available online to provide step-by-step instruction and useful hints and tips on how to get the best possible use of Library resources. Topics include: locating government information, statistics, companies and industries, patents and newspaper articles.

Online Library Help (Email a Librarian)
Email a Librarian provides staff and students with convenient and timely access to expert help. This service provides assistance with questions about Library services, access to electronic resources, and how to locate information for an assignment or research topic. You will receive a response within two working days. For urgent assistance please contact the Research Help Desk on x3548.
Available - Monday - Friday 9:00am-4:00pm.

Library services for satellite or off-campus students
Off-campus students and students enrolled at satellite sites have access to distributed Library services.
These services can include access to print and electronic collections, reference assistance, photocopying facilities, individual and group study areas and audio-visual equipment. Other services offered are: intercampus document delivery, interlibrary loans and email a Librarian.
Available to: Some services are only available to students studying in Australia.

Information Literacy and Library Workshops
These workshops are designed to assist students to become more efficient in locating and evaluating information, and to improve their success in completing academic assessments. Workshops build on the foundation information literacy skills gained through completing the Information Literacies Introductory Program (ILIP).
Workshops target specific skill sets such as finding journal articles, finding legal information and Endnote.
Available to: Anyone with a UOW staff or student computer account. Arrive at the Library Information Desk 10-15 minutes before the workshop is due to begin.
Cost: NIL - except for EndNote Workshop

Library Document Delivery Services
Document Delivery Services obtains material not held at the UoW Library that supports research, teaching and learning needs of staff and research students.
Used to request published items from other Libraries etc including books, journal articles, conference papers, films and videos etc.
Available to: Academic staff, postgraduate students (including Honours) and general staff with work related research needs. Document Delivery is available to UOW off-campus students and UOW Masters by Research and PhD students residing overseas.
An Online Request Form MUST be completed.
Cost: Costs are deducted from the Library Information Resource fund. Thesis requests are an exception and will be debited to you or your department. Undergraduate students must pay the full fee for requests made.

Online Library service enquiry
A webpage listing the various contact methods available for the UOW Library. Online contact services include, Email a Librarian and Research help chat (both with direct links), a list of relevant Library email addresses and extension numbers are also available.
Designed for UOW staff and students who have a research question or a question relating to a service offered by the Library.

Indigenous Student Support:
Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS)
A Government funded tutorial assistance scheme offered to Indigenous students in any of their enrolled subjects either one on one or in a small group.
Lecturers can refer an Indigenous student who may need tutorial assistance.
Available to: Any Indigenous student currently studying at UOW who may require tutoring assistance for any of their enrolled subjects.
Student application forms can be collected from the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre reception desk or online: ITAS Application Form (pdf)

Support for Indigenous students
Services for Indigenous students offered by the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre include academic advice, computer lab access, student lounge and kitchen facilities.
You are encouraged to inform any Indigenous students about these services which provide them with a supportive environment to study and relax.

Research resources online
A range of research resources available online including: the literature review, locating thesis writing resources, managing and protecting intellectual property, accessing research specific databases, how to get published and much more.
Available to: All current UOW staff and students. More suited to Postgraduate and Honours studies.

Individual Library consultations
Individual Library consultations cover topics such as: exploring the range of electronic resources available from your desktop, developing information literacy programs linked to your teaching curricula, identifying resources to support your teaching and/or research needs.
Your Faculty Librarian is available to provide professional and expert advice.
