Teaching @ UOW booklet

Use this booklet to find information on teaching related procedures, committees and policies, who's who on campus, resources and services to support your teaching, ideas for your teaching, lecturing, tutoring, WebCT, the UOW Library etc.

The free booklet is designed to support new members of staff in their first year of teaching at UOW.

Available to: Booklets are distributed to each academic via the internal mail after publication. Multiple copies are also available for distribution to tutors from CEDIR.

University Learning and Teaching (ULT, formerly ITT)

This course supports you in developing knowledge, skills and attitudes in higher education that will enhance your ability to structure an effective learning environment for your students.

University Learning and Teaching is a professional development program for practising university teachers that offers you the opportunity to enhance your teaching effectiveness.

Available to: All UOW academic and casual teaching staff. ULT is offered at the Wollongong campus and Dubai.

Workshops to improve your teaching

A workshop program designed to develop your professional teaching skills and improve student learning. Each year a program of courses, workshops, seminars and information sessions is provided for academic staff within UOW. They include local, national and international presenters. CEDIR can also develop activities specifically to meet the needs of the faculties.

Available to: All academic staff.

Tutor & Demonstrator training

These workshops would be valuable to gain faculty specific tutoring knowledge, or to build on existing tutoring skills.

Both CEDIR and Learning Development offer workshops for tutors which focus on strategies to support student learning in the tertiary classroom. They can be generic or tailored to particular faculty needs by request.

Available to: All subject co-ordinators. You need to contact your CEDIR Educational Development faculty representative or Learning Development before session begins.

Staff development calendar

Enrol in the available courses and training to enhance your knowledge in the chosen area.

The webpage lists the available teaching, personal development, finance, Occupational Health & Safety courses for the year within UOW. Online courses are also listed.

Available to: Different courses have different requirements, please check the webpage for specific details.

Equal Opportunity (EO) Online training

Use EO Online training to fully understand your rights and responsibilities as an active member of the University community. It is also a useful tool to educate students who are selected for practical placement and may not be aware of their rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

This web-resource is designed to improve knowledge and understanding of discrimination and harassment issues.

Workshops for female academics

Use these workshops if you are working towards a promotion within the next one to two years, if you are a new female member of staff wanting to get acquainted with UOW procedures, or if you simply want to develop a more focused approach to career planning.

Workshops for academic women focus on preparing for promotion, better research methods and information for new female academic staff.

Available to: All female academic staff at UOW. To apply, follow the standard Professional & Organisational Development Services procedures for applying to attend a workshop.

Self-development workshops

Attend a workshop to develop and improve on existing skills required in today's complex work environment.

Workshops are for University staff, covering topics such as: assertiveness skills, leadership development, dealing with people in difficult situations, team building and managing your career.

Available to: Current UOW staff members. Enrolments for these workshops are to be submitted via Web Kiosk, for instructions please see: Web Kiosk demonstration.

Online guide for Academic Career Development Interviews

The online guide is used by academic staff to prepare information for their Academic Career Development Interviews. Career development interviews are an annual review designed to enhance your academic career and evaluate your performance. This website has a detailed explanation of the process, the necessary forms and general information.

Annual Career Development Interviews are mandatory in the first five years following your appointment, and the first must occur within nine months of appointment.

Online guide to Promotion and Probation

Use this online guide to familiarise yourself with the policies and/or procedures when applying for promotion and probation.

This webpage which features information on promotion and probation workshops, important dates to remember when applying for promotion or probation, links to relevant sections of the UOW Enterprise Agreement, forms, checklists and also a 'process map' which has been provided to assist applicants when preparing their submission.

Available to: All staff in the process of, or thinking of applying for, promotion or probation.
