Performance Enhancement & Career Development Record
Academic Staff
The Performance Enhancement & Career Development Record is designed to assist Academic Staff to:
- establish and maintain appropriate career goals,
- set work goals in line with career and faculty directions,
- highlight achievements and contributions to scholarly and other activities
Performance enhancement and career development interviews are conducted annually in the first 5 years of appointment. The first interview is to occur within two months of appointment and thereafter every 12 months. Subject to mutual agreement between the supervisor and the academic staff member, biennial interviews may replace annual interviews for staff members of longer standing, however it is strongly recommended that an annual cycle be maintained.
Examples
The following examples are provided as a general indication of how the document may be used. The staff member and supervisor are jointly responsible for ensuring the completed document contains details appropriate to the staff member's current role.

Transitioning from the old form to the new
The following suggestions are offered to assist in the transition from the old CDR documentation to the new form.
1. Where the staff member has an existing CDR in the old format, make a photocopy of your goals from last year's form, annotate them with the outcomes and include this (stapled) with the new form. (a once-off requirement during transition from old to new)
For the coming period, use the new form and include any carry-over goals from the previous document (ie incomplete or on-going goals) PLUS new goals appropriate for the coming period. Document goals & strategies/resources in the WHITE sections. Leave the GREY sections blank as these belong to the mid-point and end of period review for the coming period.
2. What to do with the material that used to be recorded in the old CDR Part 2.
Appendix 1 of the CDR guidelines encourages staff members to maintain an ongoing portfolio of activity. See the above link for details
