Ride Safe

Complaints about bike riders raised within our campus community and from outside the campus community are usually about bicycle safety.

Most complaints relate to the behaviour of riders involved in:

  • Riding at excessive speed without regard to pedestrians.
  • Riding through building entrances or arcades risking collision with pedestrians.
  • Riding without approved helmets.
  • Not having correct equipment affixed to their bikes.
  • Riding without approved lights at night.

Surveys indicate that up to 600 bikes are on campus each day.

UOW Security will continue to embark upon an education program to instill in riders the need to "ride safe". Riders will be informed about riding with approved personal protective equipment, having approved equipment required by the Australian Road Rules affixed to bikes for their own personal safety and respect for pedestrians moving around campus.
