Ask for Help

The Policy and Governance Unit can provide advice and assistance when you are drafting or reviewing a policy document. As custodians of the Standard on UOW Policy, the Policy and Governance Unit plays an assurance role to ensure that policy documents conform with the requirements of this standard.

The Policy and Governance Unit is not responsible for drafting policy documents unless they relate to the work of the academic committees for which it is responsible. Specifically it is the responsibility of the Unit to:

• Provide appropriate support for the development and management of policy documents within the University - including supporting the Policy Custodian with advice on the policy development process, ensuring the policy style and format is appropriate and recommending the most appropriate approval pathway.
• Provide training on policy writing and policy development.
• Review new policy proposal forms in order to ensure consistency between the policy and any related policies, procedures, systems, codes of practice or conduct, guidelines, rules, relevant legislation and approval pathways.
• Ensure the correct document control and approval mechanisms are in place.
• Ensure a policy review takes place in a timely manner in consultation with the Policy Custodian.
• Ensure that a full and accurate record of the policy is developed and maintained.
• Maintain the UOW Policy Directory.

Policy and Governance Unit staff are aligned with each Faculty and Unit in order to meet the responsibilities outlined above.
