It was in 1975 that legislation establishing the University of Wollongong as an independent institution was passed. From our start as a division of the then New South Wales University of Technology, our formation as a university in our own right is an important milestone in our history, and that of the Illawarra region.
So in 2015, we celebrate 40 years of independence.
We look back to the first time we stood on our own as a university, driven by a culture of resolve and determination, and supported by a community that could imagine a better future for the region.
Throughout the year we'll be reflecting on our achievements as one of Australia's best international universities, taking stock of just how far we've come, and looking towards a bright future.
