Lisa brings years of environmental experience to the table most recently having been Environment & Recreation Manager at Wollongong City Council. Prior to this she worked at Sydney Water as a marine ecologist and consultant working in Australia, Hong Kong and China. In putting forward her vision for the team Lisa said “Our team will be working with all staff and students to reduce our ecological footprint and become leaders and innovators in sustainability”. Currently Lisa's key focus is on the development of the Environmental Management Plan and engagement with the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC).

David has seen the establishment of the UOW Environmental Policy and Environmental Management System (EMS). With a broad range of dedicated activities, David has previously developed a carbon baseline report. Currently he is working on improving our cleaning service through integrating recycling services into our next tender process later in the year.

Alison's main role in the ESI team involves educating Staff and Students about how they can help UOW become Sustainable. Alison’s role also focuses on compliance with environmental reporting standards as well as funding and grant opportunities. Currently Alison is involved in the implementation of the recycling program as well as preparing for the National Greenhouse Energy Reporting (NGER) requirements.

John Hazelton Project Sustainability Engineer
John's role focuses on implementing the recommendations from the energy and water savings action plans (ESAP/WSAP). He is currently in the midst of Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) improvements for the UOW campus. John is also assisting with the finalisation of the energy and water metering and reporting systems through PIP's. Most recently John and Chris Hewitt (Manager, Maintenance and Energy) were involved in the reduction of over 130 tonnes of C02 after a lighting retrofit in Buildings 3 & 15.

Jessica's role is to manage the communication of Environmental initiatives to staff and students. Currently Jessica is updating content on the ESI website based on feedback and demand. Recently she has returned from a trip to Geneva where she participated in a Summit on Climate Change at the United Nations. On her trip she was introduced to an innovative solution to take-away cups which have been a source of concern on the UOW Campus. Stay tuned as the solution will be introduced in September.

Cathy simultaneously manages two assignments as part of her role as a Project Manager. As a member of the ESI team, Cathy was handed the Recycling project with the aim of significantly boosting the profile of this imperative activity. Recently Cathy has implemented a mobile phone recycling program and currently is managing a trial for an Indoor Recycling system at UOW.

Tom is a Project Manager who, as a member of the ESI team is working to implement sustainable transport options. These include; free shuttle bus services, more and secure bike storage, supporting the bicycle users group (bug), free cycle training, promoting more carpooling and improving UOW transport infrastructure. Tom is currently gearing up for Ride to Work day on October 14.
