Which bin does it go in? – Recycling

Recycling bins on main campus have yellow tops or signage and are shown in the photos to the right. 

The following items do belong in these Recycling bins:

  • newspapers
  • paper and cardboard products eg. egg cartons, envelopes (tear out plastic windows)
  • magazines and advertising leaflets
  • glass bottles and jars (all colours)
  • plastic items (with plastic codes 1 to 6 or rocket bottoms)
  • aluminum cans
  • milk and juice cartons (remove lids)
  • steel cans including aerosol cans (remove nozzle) as well as clean and empty paint and pet food cans

******NEW*****  Pizza boxes can now be recycled

Items that do not belong in these Recycling bins:

  • straws
  • plastic bags
  • ceramics, crockery, china or Pyrex cookware
  • broken glass
  • mirrors or windows
  • light globes or tubes
  • paper items such as serviettes, tissues and paper plates
  • waxed paper and waxed cardboard cartons
  • all polystyrene items
  • plastic coated paper eg. cereal bags
  • gummed labels
  • thermal fax paper or carbon paper
  • syringe or needles
  • building materials
  • scrap metal
  • oil or fuel
  • food scraps
  • clothing- use charity clothing bins

Handy hits for recycling

  • Check plastic items for plastic codes 1 to 6
  • Remove lids
  • Empty liquids
  • Rinse out food
  • Crush all bulky items
