The Solution.

Bring your own cup. (BYO Cup)

Yep that's it. If you bring your own cup, that means you won't throw one away, which means no landfill. We would never challenge the ritual of a morning or afternoon coffee, but we would like to challenge the way we all go about it. Often when we go for a coffee we grab a friend, jacket or someone elses order, some change and off we go. We want you to add a cup to that equation - 'Coffee = change + cup'

Turn Over a New Leaf...make it one less cup (everytime!)

What kind of Cup? ...A Keep Cup!

We have found a very interesting cup called the "Keep Cup" and have some information about it below.

ESI_KeepCup1
  • It is made from #5 Polypropylene (the safe grade food plastic)
  • The cup itself is recyclable at the end of it's life.
  • Sealable and lightweight.
  • No grooves or twist tops so easy to clean.
  • Dishwasher safe.
  • Microwave safe.
  • Fits in car cup holders and those cardboard take-away trays.
  • A handy plug rotates 90 degrees to open or close the sipper hole completely for safety.
  • Allows you to write in your favourite coffee or be written on in texta.
  • The cups seen around will be a standard medium size (340ml) but there are marking inside of the cup for barrista's to measure shots and small size coffees.

Note: As long as your cup is reusable we will drink to that! Chat's with some staff reveal that you are most at home with ceramic or stainless steel but since the majority of coffee drinkers use disposable cups they are used to plastic.

Isn't that a plastic cup?

Yes, it is made from #5 Polypropylene (the safe grade food plastic) and the cup itself is recyclable at the end of it's life. The cups life is estimated around 4-5 years. If you find it's ready to retire at this point simply remove the silicon plug and band and pop the cup and lid into your yellow top recycling bin.

In addition, by weight, it takes 21 plastic disposable lids to make one KeepCup with a lid and plug.
The issues around renewable and non-renewable resources are very complex, but it is always best to go back to the basic principles of reuse." Further Info>

That's a great idea...I want a cup!

  • You can also Adopt-A-Cup. There are only limited amount available throughout the year and they are only available at certain times.
  • Right now we are celebrating the new look UOW website by incorporating it's colour scheme into a cup.
