Mission
(Vision Statement & Broad Objectives, as developed
by the University Environmental Management Committee,
1997)
Vision Statement
To support sustainable management principles and practices,
and demonstrate environmental responsibility in the
teaching, research and operational management of the
University.
Broad Objectives
- Continuing development and implementation of environmental
management strategies incorporating all areas of the
University, including teaching areas, offices, grounds,
accommodation residences, and campus community and
commercial areas.
- Endeavour to become a community leader in the practical
application of environmental principles, primarily
covering the areas of energy and water consumption,
waste management and building design, but also including
other aspects of environmental responsibility.
- Foster programs to produce expertise in, and knowledge
of, environmental management and related fields, to
ensure that all graduates are environmentally literate
and responsible citizens.
- Foster programs to enhance the capability of University
faculty to teach environmental literacy and responsibility
to students.
- Establish appropriate mechanisms to investigate,
encourage and recommend change, aimed at achieving
an environmentally sustainable University campus.
- Develop the ethos "Maintenance and enhancement
of the university environment is the responsibility
of everyone utilising the facilities and resources
of the University".
- Increase environmental awareness among the University
community.
- Establish and encourage links with outside organisations
involved in environmental management.
