Environmental team launch on World Environment Day

Coinciding with World Environment Day, the University of Wollongong today (Friday June 5) officially launched its Environmental and Sustainability Initiatives (ESI) Unit.

The event, conducted in the University Hall foyer, provided an opportunity for visitors to find out more about the ESI Unit, the areas it covers and the issues with which it is dealing.

The unit has been established to support a cultural shift towards environmental sustainability.

The environmental initiatives of the team involve sustained water, energy and emissions reduction, improved waste and recycling management and ecological systems.

Part of today’s activities included a demonstration focusing on energy management at UOW and facilities were also available for people to start recycling their old mobile phones.

UOW has chosen to partner with the Australian Recycling Program, the Jane Goodall Institute, to recycle mobile phones.
